On Wednesday, November 28, 2018, The Dartmouth Society of Fellows called my career brilliant:
This seemed a bit hyperbolic. But, hey! Who am I to argue with Dartmouth?
In 2014, I was a junior fellow in the Martin Marty Center at the University of Chicago. During the meeting dedicated to discussing my work, Professor Doniger said that she was not familiar with the Ontological Argument. After I explained it to her, she responded the way most people do upon first encountering it. She (quite lovingly) said, "That sounds completely bonkers to me!"
After a few moments of Socratic questioning, she acknowledged that she accepted all of the premises of the argument, and that all of the reasoning appeared sound to her. My friend Drew remarked, "here we go..." and I quoted the infamous Caribbean philosopher Captain Jack Sparrow: "We've established that my proposal is sound in principle. Now we're just haggling over price!"
